There’s been some odd nautical discoveries over the centuries and these porthole covers are no exception. Sized to cover a porthole less than an inch in diameter, historians are baffled at the design intent or origin. Speculations around usage include a peephole cover on the door of the Captain’s Quarters, a patch for holes in the hull, or the most widely adopted theory: a porthole cover on a boat for ants. Whatever the original intent, the VSSL crew uses them as privacy camera covers for their laptops.
