These glasses were found in the galley of a ship captained by the Australian Navy on a voyage to the South Pacific in the 1800s. Regular exposure to intense heat from volcanic vents on the local islands and ocean floor has caused the glasses to warp. Because the shape was imperfect, senior mariners left the warped glasses to the steward staff. Little did they know that the tulip shape created a perfect flavor profile for west coast IPAs.
